Neumann U87(i) Case

Type 1

This was the first case built for the U87(i). It was similar to the case of it's predecessor (U67), except the lock mechanism was changed.

The wooden case is grey with a tint of green. The microphone sits snugly in firm shaped foam, with smooth foam lining the lid. The velvet lining is red and there are two locks. There are two versions of the case accomodating both the Tuchel connector and the XLR connector microphones (determined by the lower inlay). The XLR connector version accomodates all U87 variants, where as the Tuchel version can only be used for the Tuchel U87. Model and serial number can be found on the side of the case.

Type 2

'Type 2' has one similarity to 'Type 1' in that the lower inlay is exactly the same. Unlike 'Type 1' this case is made of hard card and is covered with genuine leather. The leather lid is filled with foam and has a hole in the middle. The case is fitted with 1 lock. Refer to 'Type 1' for compatibility with U87s. Model and serial number can be found on the side of the case.

Type 3

Type 3 is made of hard card and wrapped in genuine leather. However the leather is coarser than 'Type 1'. The lower inlay is made of firm rubber whilst the upper inlay is filled with foam and lined with red velvet. Unlike 'Type 1 and 2' the lower inlay has a finger recess. Case is securely closed with one lock. It's also the first case to have a lock feature where a key can lock it. Is compatible with all U87 variants. Model and serial number can be found on the side of the case.

Type 4

This U87(i) case is the same as 'Type 3', the only difference being the locking mechanism. Is compatible with all U87 variants. Model and serial number can be found on the side of the case.

Neumann U87Ai Case

The U87Ai case has nothing in common with previous U87(i) cases. It's made of wood and finished in brown. The lower and upper inlays are made of firm foam. Two locks are in place to securely tighten the case.  Unlike the U87(i) cases the U87Ai case has the microphone sitting on the right. Although all U87 varaints shall fit into the case, there is no gap between the foam and U87's with an XLR connector.
